3 Important Life Lessons

I often find my most productive thoughts while I am working out. During a recent trip to the club, I started thinking about my life as an entrepreneur and the similarities to my trusted water bottle.

1.       Embrace the scars.

Be courageous and recognize scrapes, bruises, and scars are the fabric of success. Progress is only realized through action. Something never used will have neither scars nor success. Only through focused action will anything improve.

2.       Do whatever is needed.

Execute on the most important task, on the least important, and everything in between. ‘Carrying the water’ is often viewed as the least important, most demeaning task for a team. Consider for a moment the teams that can function without it. None. Everything matters. Do whatever is needed to deliver excellent service.

3.       Believe.

If you don’t believe in something, don’t bother trying. My trusted water bottle – a gift from a brother – has been lost/stolen and found/recovered at least 4 times. When you believe in something, you keep showing up. You keep working. You maintain your focus. My faith and belief in who I am both as a person and as the CEO of SDRefinery are founded on principles far greater than me.
